Purple City Kathmandu with Blue Jacaranda is the attraction of this Spring Season. Blue Jacaranda is known as Sirish Ko Phool in Nepal but it is not correct. Blue Jacaranda was introduced by King Birendra in Nepal in the late 19th and early 20th century in Kathmandu. This purple flower fills the color of Kathmandu Valley in the month of March and April. Roads and busy sidewalks are blanked with a purple flower in the month of Spring.
Shirish and Blue Jacaranda are two different plants but Kathmandu believes as the same. The confusion starts with the novel of Parijat. Parijat mentioned Jacaranda as Shirish in her novel “Shirishko Phool”. It is her masterpiece novel.
